Ok, you’ve found a home-based business that you just KNOW will change the lives of anyone who makes the decision to get involved.  You’re so excited you want to shout it from the mountain tops!  But when you get the chance to present your opportunity, what happens?  You freeze up and don’t say a word. 

What is it that holds you back from talking about your opportunity?  The typical answer is FEAR.  Specifically, fear of being rejected.  Why does this fear exist?  Because when somebody flat out doesn’t want what you have to offer, YOU tend to take it personally.  Nobody likes to put themselves out there just to get shut down. 

So let’s look at the cause of rejection; because if we can get to the root of the cause, we can eliminate this form of rejection altogether.

In our fast-paced, solution-oriented society, people tend to make the mistake of jumping to a solution before involving the decision maker.  Think about what you would do in this example: You go to the doctor because you just feel sick to your stomach.  Without asking you questions like “What did you eat last?” or “When did this first start” the doctor wrote you a prescription and sent you on your way.  How would you feel?  Would you want trust the doctor’s solution if he didn’t find the specific cause for your stomach ache?

You would probably not be convinced that he had the right answer and most likely would seek a second opinion.
And herein lays the problem.  Most people jump to a resolution before really digging deep and finding out what the person’s true needs are.  How do you feel when you tell someone about a problem you’re experiencing and they tell you…”You know what you should do?”  I know personally, I immediately tune them out; even if the solution is the right one for me.  Why?  Because people love to buy, but hate to be sold. 

You may know everything about your business; the compensation plan, the product, and how it’s changed the lives of virtually everyone who’s already involved.  But regurgitating why you think it’s so great is assuming the person you’re speaking to is just like you.

We all have different desires in life.  We’re all motivated by different goals and rewards.  Your goal in order to win over your prospect is to find out what they want by involving them in the discussion. 

This is really easy to do…and it’s a lot more fun than just giving the same dry presentation time and time again.  The alternative to telling, is rephrasing you’re your statements into questions.  This allows your prospect to become involved and provides you with the exact formula for an appropriate solution.

We did something new this year that I’m sure many families have done traditionally. We stood around in a circle, and instead of one person reciting a prayer as we did in the past, we each took a turn reciting the things we were most thankful for in our lives.

I heard the usual family, friends, good health, etc. for the most part. And I have the utmost gratitude for all those wonderful things in my life as well. But in addition to all the amazing things in my life, I am also thankful for some things that many might think strange.

For example, I’m thankful for the financial struggles that I’ve faced. These challenges pushed me to higher heights than I would have reached without them.

The ended relationships that I once felt I would never recover from drew a clear picture of what I wanted and the kind of people I wanted in my life.

The struggles and frustrations that seem so irritating at the moment have been the source of some very valuable lessons.

So although it may be a bit odd to some, I just wanted to express my gratitude for absolutely everything that life has brought my way; both the good and seemingly bad.

After hours of lifting furniture and closing boxes, I conveniently remembered my previous vow during the move before that I would just have movers do the work next time.  By then it was too late.  I was working hard instead of doing the smart thing and hiring someone to do the heavy lifting for me.   

If you have goals to get more accomplished throughout your day, make more money, and simplify your life, than you must work SMART. 

Forget the old rule that in order to get ahead you have to work hard.  If that were true, teachers would make a fortune.  Construction workers would be loaded.  And I know first hand from moving myself lately, movers would be rolling in the cash.

Anyway, who actually enjoys hard work? 

Working hard might pay the bills (and that’s a big “might”).  Being smart in your actions, on the other hand, will not only get you ahead but will also provide more fulfillment in your life. 

Somehow, somewhere; daydreaming and goal-setting were replaced with punching the clock and “getting back to reality”.  Almost everyone I’ve worked with in corporate America seemed to almost brag when they spent 60 hours in the office in one week.  

That just isn’t for me!

Like Andrew Carnagie, I would rather have 1% of 100 mens efforts than 100% of my own.  

What does working smart look like?  I’d have to say it’s different from one person to the next.  But a good rule to go by is this:  How much is your time worth?  Once you determine this, don’t engage in the activities that fall below that amount.    

Invest your time in the activities in your job or business that you enjoy and are good at.  Find a way to outsource and pay someone else to do the rest.
